About the Image Compressor
Image file size is one of the most critical factors impacting website loading speed and Core Web Vitals. Our Image Compressor is a free tool that converts existing images like JPEG or PNG directly to next-generation formats (WebP, AVIF) in your browser, drastically reducing file sizes with almost no perceptible loss in quality.
The most important feature is that it is completely client-side. Your image data is never sent to external servers, so even highly confidential business documents or private photos can be compressed safely without any risk of information leakage. By utilizing the latest Web Worker and WebAssembly (WASM) technologies, we achieve high-quality encoding and parallel processing speeds on par with dedicated desktop software, right from your web browser.
How to Use
Set Format & Quality
Select the output format (WebP / AVIF / JPEG / PNG / Original) and compression strength. You can also specify maximum dimensions if resizing is needed.
Drop Images
Drag and drop files or click "Select Files" to choose images. Batch processing multiple files at once is fully supported.

Glossary
- WebP
- A next-gen image format developed by Google. It reduces file sizes by about 25-34% compared to JPEG while maintaining similar quality, and supports transparency (alpha channel) like PNG. Supported by almost all modern browsers.
- AVIF
- An ultra-high compression format developed by AOMedia. It can shrink file sizes by another 30-50% compared to WebP. It has great quality but encoding requires more processing power.
- Core Web Vitals (LCP)
- Metrics used by Google to measure user experience on the web. Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) is directly affected by the size of hero images, making image compression a highly effective SEO optimization.
FAQ
- Q.Are my images uploaded to your servers?
- No, they are not. This tool uses modern Web technologies (like WebAssembly) to process, compress, and convert images entirely within your browser on your device. Your files never leave your computer, ensuring absolute privacy.
- Q.Are there any limits on file size or batch size?
- We do not enforce any limits on our end since everything runs locally. However, processing hundreds of very high-resolution images at once might crash your browser due to memory limits. We recommend processing in batches of a few dozen.
- Q.Should I choose WebP or AVIF?
- WebP is the best choice for general compatibility, as it is supported by almost all browsers. AVIF provides even better compression (smaller file sizes) but has slightly less browser support and requires more CPU power to encode.
- Q.What is the recommended quality setting?
- For websites and blogs, 80% to 85% is typically the sweet spot. Going lower than this may introduce noticeable artifacts. If you are compressing illustrations or images with text, you might want a higher quality setting or use PNG.
- Q.What does 'Keep original format' mean?
- It means the tool will try to compress the image while keeping its original extension. For example, a JPEG will be re-encoded as a smaller JPEG.
Use Cases
SEO Optimization
Convert images to WebP before uploading to your blog or media site to boost loading speed (LCP) and improve Google search rankings.
Bypass Email Attachment Limits
Combine resizing and compression to reduce multi-megabyte photos to a few hundred kilobytes, avoiding "attachment too large" errors.
